The Difference between MICRODERMABRASION AND DERMAPLANING

What’s The Difference Between Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning?

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic exfoliating procedure that removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis with the use of an abraded wand and adjustable suction. This treatment helps to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, diminish fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and acne scars. Removing the dead skin will also aid in the penetration of your skin care products. Patients typically experience less than 24 hours of redness and minor peeling if any. Treatment is recommended in a series of 3-6 for best results.

Dermaplaning is an exfoliation procedure that incorporates the use of a sterile surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and unwanted vellus hair aka “peach fuzz”.  This technique leaves the skin brighter and smoother and also allows for better penetration of skin products or, as a pre-treatment before a more aggressive procedure such as a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, microneedling and even laser. There is typically no down time with dermaplaning and can be performed on all skin types with the exception of imflammatory acne.
